Mississippi quiz highlights budget standoff over teacher pay
Lawmakers must set the state’s more than $7 billion budget, but it remains unclear whether they can do so without Gov. Tate Reeves calling a special session, Mississippi Explained, a weekly quiz from Mississippi Today, said.
The House and Senate have not agreed on teacher pay, the quiz said. Mississippi Today reported that the House’s latest proposal includes language that could expand school choice.
Mississippi Explained asked readers what the governor can do to partially reject appropriation bills. Mississippi Today invited readers to email answers to newsletter@mississippitoday.org with their first name and last initial for a shoutout in the next quiz post.
Last week’s answer was to send a bill to conference committee, the quiz said. Mississippi Today also encouraged readers to sign up for The Today newsletter and to take more quizzes.
