The department thanked its men and women who train and respond to emergencies at a moment’s notice, saying they are a lifeline in the community. It also honored firefighters who died in the line of duty, the department said.

Mayor Ken Adams said the intersection of Pleasant Hill Road and Goodman Road reopened after a crash that had closed the roadway. Officials had urged drivers to use Malone and Davidson roads as alternate routes.

An 8-year-old boy finished a Special Olympics Torch Run 5K in Byhalia, Mississippi, running alongside an Olive Branch police officer, the Olive Branch Police Department said.

The City of Southaven’s Parks and Recreation Department said registration is open for the Snowden Grove fall recreational soccer league, with a June 18 deadline. Officials directed applicants to the city’s website or to call the department for more information.
