Two deaths in Thanksgiving weekend vehicle crashes
JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) concluded its 2025 Thanksgiving Holiday Travel Period at midnight on Sunday, Nov. 30, reporting more than 6,400 citations and two fatal crashes.
The enforcement period began Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 5 p.m. and spanned the busy holiday weekend. Troopers issued 6,492 citations statewide, arrested 85 drivers for impaired driving, and cited 577 motorists for seatbelt and child restraint violations.
MHP investigated 243 crashes during the period, resulting in 43 injuries. Two fatal crashes claimed two lives, one in Walthall County and another in Lincoln County.
Year-to-Year Comparison
The 2025 totals showed a slight decrease in citations compared to 2024, when 6,662 were issued. Crashes rose from 187 in 2024 to 243 in 2025, while fatalities remained the same at two. Motorist assists also dropped from 116 in 2024 to 90 in 2025.
