Tunica, MDOT, to Celebrate New Walking Trail

TUNICA, MS – The City of Tunica, in partnership with the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) Local Public Agencies Division, will host a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, September 16, at 10:30 a.m. to celebrate the completion of the new Tunica Walking Trail. The event will take place at the corner of Old Highway 61 and Peabody Avenue.

The new walking trail spans approximately half a mile, connecting Beatline Road to the corner of School Street and Peabody Avenue. The project, designed to enhance community health and recreation, was made possible through a grant from MDOT’s Transportation Alternative Program (TAP), supplemented by matching funds from the Town of Tunica.

The trail features two dedicated seating areas with benches generously donated by the Tunica Rotary Club and the Robert Andrews Lodge, providing residents with places to rest and enjoy the outdoors. The project was engineered by Neel-Schaffer and constructed by Simmons Erosion.

Local elected officials and representatives from all contributing organizations will be in attendance to mark this significant community achievement. The public is invited to attend the ceremony and be among the first to experience the new trail.
