Three separate shootings at Mississippi High School Football related events last night leaves multiple dead, multiple injured according to police and other reports.
Three separate shootings connected to high school football and homecoming events left multiple people dead and injured across Mississippi Friday night and early Saturday morning.
Leland Shooting
In Leland, four people were killed and at least twelve others were injured when gunfire erupted shortly after midnight on a main street where crowds had gathered following Leland High School’s homecoming game against Charleston High School.
Leland Mayor John Lee confirmed that four of the injured victims were airlifted to nearby hospitals. Their conditions have not yet been released. As of early Saturday, no suspects were in custody, and investigators were still working to determine what led to the shooting.
The incident did not occur on school grounds but near downtown, where post-game gatherings were underway.
Heidelberg Shooting
In Heidelberg, a homecoming celebration turned deadly Friday night when gunfire broke out at Heidelberg High School. Two people were killed and at least one other was wounded.
Heidelberg Police Chief Cornell White said one victim was found on the school’s baseball field and another near the tailgating area by the bleachers. Emergency vehicles flooded the scene as spectators fled for safety.
Police identified 18-year-old Tylar Jarod Goodloe as a person of interest and are asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact authorities.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Mississippi Highway Patrol, Bay Springs Police Department, and Jasper County Sheriff’s Office are assisting Heidelberg Police in the investigation.
Rolling Fork Shooting
A third shooting occurred Friday night at South Delta High School in Rolling Fork. The Sharkey County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that shots were fired during the football game, with reports indicating at least two people were injured.
Details remain limited, and no arrests or suspect information have been released as of Saturday morning.
Ongoing Investigations
Authorities in all three communities are continuing their investigations. The incidents — occurring within hours of one another and all tied to high school football events — have drawn statewide concern over public safety at school gatherings.
Mississippi officials have urged anyone with information related to the shootings to contact local law enforcement immediately.
