State tops nation for fourth-grade NAEP gains over time
The Mississippi Department of Education Wednesday announced that fourth graders in the state are scoring higher than any other state in reading and math scores.
The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) testing results indicated the improvements. The fourth grade results showed the highest-ever rate of students scoring proficient or advanced in all four tests: fourth and eighth grade reading and math and first in the nation for achieving highest score increases in fourth grade reading and math since 2013.
Gov. Tate Reeves issued a statement about the results, saying, “Mississippi fourth graders aren’t just one of the best in reading and math gains — they’re the best in the nation. And when you look at the historic performance of Mississippi’s eighth graders, as well as African American and Hispanic students, it’s undeniable that something special is happening in classrooms all across our state.”
Known as the Nation’s Report Card, NAEP measures student performance in 4th and 8th grade reading and math in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. NAEP is administered every two years.
