JACKSON, Miss. — Mississippi has received final federal approval for its comprehensive plan to expand high‑speed internet to every remaining unserved area of the state, marking a major milestone in the state’s Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program.
The U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration approved Mississippi’s final proposal on Feb. 9, 2026, clearing the way for the state to begin full implementation.
The Office of Broadband Expansion and Accessibility of Mississippi (BEAM) will administer the program and oversee the statewide buildout. Earlier this year, BEAM accepted applications from internet providers and used a competitive process to select awardees. Preliminary awards total more than $508 million to reach 93,000 unserved households, with participating providers contributing an additional $321 million in private funding.
“Expanding high‑speed internet to every corner of Mississippi isn’t just about technology—it’s about opportunity,” Gov. Tate Reeves said. “This buildout will strengthen our workforce, support our small businesses, and open the door for new industries to invest in our state.”
BEAM Director Sally Doty said the agency conducted extensive mapping and engineering reviews to ensure funding is directed to areas truly lacking service. A statewide monitoring plan will track progress and prevent wasteful overbuilding.
“At the end of the day, this effort is about giving every Mississippian the chance to fully participate in the digital world,” Doty said.
Twelve internet providers will participate in the BEAD program. A full list of awards and an address‑level map of funded locations are available at broadbandms.com. BEAM can be reached at 601‑359‑5029 or info@beam.ms.gov.
