Reeves unveils 2027 Executive Budget Recommendation

JACKSON, Miss. (Nov. 14, 2025) — Gov. Tate Reeves on Friday unveiled his Fiscal Year 2027 Executive Budget Recommendation, outlining priorities that build on Mississippi’s recent economic growth, education gains, and workforce development.

Reeves highlighted Mississippi’s record-breaking economic development projects, noting that the state has finalized the four largest deals in its history and created thousands of high-paying jobs across all regions. He pointed to Mississippi’s rise to second in the nation for household income growth in 2024 and third for reshored jobs in early 2025.

“Together, we’ve witnessed Mississippi’s unemployment rate reach an all-time low, built the second-fastest growing economy in the United States, and delivered the fourth fastest-growing per capita income in America,” Reeves said. “The ‘Mississippi Momentum’ is real and our people are better off because of it.”

Education remains a cornerstone of the proposal. Reeves emphasized the so-called “Mississippi Miracle,” citing national-leading gains in fourth grade reading and math. Mississippi now ranks No. 9 in reading and No. 16 in math, a dramatic improvement from 48th in 2014.

The FY 2027 budget priorities include:

  • Building a stronger economy statewide
  • Preparing and supporting Mississippi’s workforce for future jobs
  • Improving mental health outcomes and enhancing public safety
  • Supporting the state’s courts
  • Expanding parental control in education while maintaining academic progress

Reeves said the plan charts “a better and more prosperous course for our state and her people that will last for generations.”
