Powerball Jackpot Soars to Record-Breaking $1.7 Billion
JACKSON, MISS. — The Powerball jackpot has rolled to an estimated $1.7 billion, making it the third-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history. The estimated cash value for the next drawing on Saturday, Sept. 6, is $770.3 million.
The massive prize follows a record-setting 42 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner, surpassing the previous game record. The last jackpot was won on May 31, 2025. With player excitement at a fever pitch, the jackpot could climb even higher before the Saturday drawing.
The top two U.S. lottery prizes were also Powerball jackpots, with the record-holding $2.04 billion prize won in November 2022 and a $1.765 billion prize won in October 2023, both in California.
While Powerball fever grips the nation, other lottery jackpots are also growing. The Mega Millions jackpot is an estimated $336 million with a cash value of $151.3 million for its drawing on Friday. Tickets for both games are available at Mississippi Lottery retailers statewide.
Powerball tickets cost $2 per play, with options to add the $1 Power Play for multiplied prizes and the $1 Double Play for a second chance to win with a separate prize structure. Mega Millions tickets are $5 and include a multiplier.
