Powerball Jackpot Soars to $1.8 Billion, Second-Largest in U.S. History
JACKSON, Miss. — The Powerball jackpot has climbed to an estimated $1.8 billion, with an estimated cash value of $826.4 million, making it the second-largest lottery prize in U.S. history. This surge, driven by a nationwide frenzy of ticket sales, comes ahead of Saturday’s drawing.
The current jackpot is second only to the record-breaking $2.04 billion Powerball prize won in California in November 2022. This is the 42nd consecutive drawing without a winner since the jackpot was last claimed on May 31, 2025. During this jackpot run, Mississippi players have secured significant winnings, including nine $50,000 prizes and one $1 million prize, with some prizes multiplying to six-figure payouts through the Power Play option. The $1 million prize was even doubled to $2 million.
Mega Millions Jackpot Also Rises
While Powerball captures the headlines, the Mega Millions jackpot is also on the rise, currently at an estimated $336 million with an estimated cash value of $151.3 million for tonight’s drawing. Mega Millions tickets are $5 and include a multiplier option. A Mississippi player recently won $2 million in the Aug. 26 Mega Millions drawing.
Tickets for both games are available at Mississippi Lottery retailers. Powerball tickets are $2, with options to add Power Play for an extra $1 to multiply non-jackpot prizes or Double Play for an additional $1 for a second drawing.
