Powerball jackpot skyrockets to $1.6 Billion

JACKSON, MISS. – The holiday season just got a lot more exciting for lottery hopefuls. After no ticket matched all six numbers in the Saturday, Dec. 20 drawing, the Powerball jackpot has surged to an estimated $1.6 billion for the upcoming Monday night draw.

If a winner is declared on Monday, Dec. 22, they will have the choice between the massive annuity or a staggering estimated cash value of $735.3 million.

Big Win in Lake, Mississippi

While the grand prize remains up for grabs, one Mississippi player is celebrating a massive windfall. A ticket purchased at Love’s Travel Stop #639 in Lake matched four out of five white balls plus the Powerball during Saturday’s drawing.

Typically a $50,000 prize, the lucky winner opted for the $1 Power Play add-on, which tripled their winnings to $150,000 thanks to the 3X multiplier.

Saturday’s Winning Numbers: 4-5-28-52-69, Powerball: 20, Power Play: 3X.

A Record-Breaking Run

Monday’s drawing marks the 46th in this current cycle, officially extending the Powerball record for the most drawings in a single jackpot run. If won, this $1.6 billion prize would stand as the fourth-largest jackpot in the history of the game.

How to Play and Boost Your Odds

Mississippi residents looking to try their luck can visit any authorized Mississippi Lottery retailer.

  • Powerball Tickets: $2 per play.
  • Power Play: For an extra $1, players can multiply non-jackpot prizes by up to five times.
  • Double Play: For an additional $1, players get a second chance to win with their numbers in a separate drawing. Just last week, a $50,000 Double Play ticket was sold in Southaven, proving the value of the add-on.

Other Surging Jackpots

It’s not just Powerball making headlines this week. Other major jackpots are also on the rise:

  • Lotto America: Estimated $10.18 million (Cash value: $4.67 million) for Monday.
  • Mega Millions: Estimated $100 million (Cash value: $45.5 million) for Tuesday.
