Powerball Jackpot Climbs to $850 Million; Mississippi Player Wins $2 Million Mega Millions Prize

JACKSON, Miss. (Aug. 27, 2025) – The Powerball jackpot has surged to an estimated $850 million, with a cash value of $383.7 million, making it the sixth-largest prize in the game’s history.

The jackpot run began on May 31 when a California player last hit the top prize. Since then, 36 consecutive drawings have passed without a jackpot winner. Earlier this year, Powerball produced major jackpots of $167.3 million in Kentucky, $526.6 million in California, and $328.5 million in Oregon.

Mississippi players have been on a streak of their own, with six winners claiming $50,000 prizes over the past month. Four of those winners boosted their winnings into six figures by purchasing the Power Play add-on.

Powerball tickets cost $2 per play and are available at more than 1,800 licensed retailers across Mississippi. For an additional $1, players can choose the Power Play multiplier to increase non-jackpot winnings, or the Double Play option for another shot at a $10 million jackpot. In February, a Petal player won the state’s largest-ever Double Play prize of $10 million.

Powerball drawings take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 9:59 p.m.

Mississippi Mega Millions Win

Adding to the excitement, a Mississippi player claimed a $2 million Mega Millions prize in the Tuesday, Aug. 26 drawing. The ticket, purchased at Pilot Travel Center #586 in Moss Point, matched all five white balls to win $1 million. With the Megaplier feature, the prize doubled to $2 million. This marks the largest Mega Millions win in Mississippi since the game’s upgrade in April 2025.

Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 10 p.m.
