Powerball Jackpot Climbs to $1 Billion for Saturday Drawing
JACKSON, Miss. (Aug. 29, 2025) – The Powerball jackpot has surged to an estimated $1 billion for the Saturday, Aug. 30, drawing, with a cash value of $453.1 million, the Mississippi Lottery Corporation announced Friday.
This marks the sixth time in Powerball’s 33-year history that the jackpot has reached the billion-dollar mark and the largest advertised prize in more than a year. The jackpot has been rolling since May 31, when a California ticket matched the winning numbers for $204.5 million. Since then, 38 consecutive drawings have passed without a grand prize winner.
Mississippi Players on a Hot Streak
While national attention focuses on the billion-dollar prize, Mississippi players are celebrating big wins of their own. In back-to-back nights, the state produced two $2 million winners and a Mississippi Match 5 jackpot winner.
On Tuesday, Aug. 26, a Mega Millions ticket purchased at Pilot Travel Center #586 in Moss Point matched all five white balls for $1 million. Because of the automatic multiplier, the prize doubled to $2 million, making it the largest Mississippi Mega Millions win since the game’s upgrade in April 2025.
Just one night later, a Powerball ticket bought at Mike’s Food & Gas in Coldwater also matched all five white balls for a $1 million prize. Thanks to the $1 Power Play option, that payout doubled to $2 million. On the same night, a Mississippi Match 5 ticket purchased at Tony’s Quick Mart in New Albany hit all five numbers to win $60,000.
New Scratch-Off Games Arrive for September
In addition to jackpot fever, the Mississippi Lottery has launched its September scratch-off lineup just in time for Labor Day weekend. The “Loaded Family” of games went on sale Friday, Aug. 29, and features prizes of $100, $500, and $2,000. Players can choose from the $2 $100 Loaded, the $5 $500 Loaded, or the $10 $2,000 Loaded, each offering instant win symbols, multipliers, and automatic top-prize awards.
Non-winning tickets may be entered into the 2nd Chance program at mslottery.com/2nd-chance.
The next Mega Millions drawing is scheduled for Friday at 10 p.m., while Powerball will be drawn Saturday at 9:59 p.m. Mississippi Match 5 is played nightly at 9:30 p.m
