One fatality in New Year’s holiday traffic period
Jan 2, 2025– The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) concluded the 2024-2025 New Year Holiday Travel Period on Wednesday, Jan. 1 at midnight. The period began on Tuesday, Dec. 31 at 6 a.m. The Mississippi Highway Patrol issued a total of 3,038 citations, made 27 arrests for impaired driving, and cited 333 motorists for occupant restraint violations.
MHP also investigated 68 crashes resulting in 21 injuries, with one fatal crash and one death. The fatal crash occurred in Union County.
TROOP F, FATAL CRASH, UNION COUNTY, 01/01/2025:
On Wednesday, Jan. 1, at approximately 2:55 p.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 22 in Union County.
A 2010 Mazda 3 driven by 42-year-old Van Wade of Tupelo was traveling south on Interstate 22 when it left the roadway on the southbound side and struck a tree. Wade received fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
