Northwest Mississippi Community College Earns Spot on 2025 Best for Vets List
SENATOBIA, Miss. — Northwest Mississippi Community College has been named one of the nation’s top schools for veterans, earning a place on the Military Times 2025 Best for Vets college rankings released Nov. 17.
The annual list, now in its 15th year, highlights institutions that provide strong support for military-connected students. This year’s rankings feature 357 colleges and universities, the largest field in the program’s history.
“For 15 years, Best for Vets has helped transitioning service members find schools that not only welcome veterans but actively invest in their success,” said Jon Simkins, executive editor of Military Times and Sightline Media Group. “The record-breaking participation this year shows that higher education leaders are listening and working to create environments where veterans can thrive academically and personally.”
Northwest’s recognition reflects its commitment to serving veterans and their families. Dr. Don Jones, assistant dean at the DeSoto Center, said the honor underscores the college’s dedication.
“Our military-connected students hold a special place in the NWCC family,” Jones said. “We salute their service, respect the unique experiences they bring, and greatly value the leadership, discipline, and determination they contribute every day in our classrooms and across our campuses.”
Jones credited the leadership of Northwest President Dr. Michael J. Heindl and the dedication of faculty and staff across all departments.
Jessica Poole, financial aid counselor and VA certifying official, said the recognition highlights the college’s mission. “We strive for optimum care of our active duty servicemembers and veteran students, as well as their spouses and dependents,” Poole said. “I am blessed to serve this particular body of students.”
Northwest Mississippi Community College continues to expand resources for veterans, ensuring they receive the academic, financial, and personal support needed to succeed.
