Mississippi lawmakers consider override of veto by Gov. Tate Reeves on winter-storm aid

Mississippi lawmakers are weighing an override of a veto by Gov. Tate Reeves on a bill to provide low-interest loans to communities hit by the winter ice storm, Mississippi Today reported.

Mississippi Today reported that Reeves vetoed the bill last week and made what the outlet called a false claim that Senate staff had committed a crime.

The report appeared in Mississippi Explained, the outlet’s weekly news quiz. The quiz asks readers how lawmakers can override a governor’s veto and invites answers by email to newsletter@mississippitoday.org with a first name and last initial for a shout-out in the next quiz post, Mississippi Today said.

Mississippi Today said last week’s answer was a line-item veto and that last week’s winner was identified as Jon A. The outlet encouraged readers to sign up for The Today, its daily newsletter, for more quizzes.
