Mississippi Highway Patrol Gears Up for 2025 Labor Day Holiday Travel Period

  • MHP to increase patrols and checkpoints during the 2025 Labor Day weekend travel period across Mississippi.

JACKSON, Miss. (Aug. 27, 2025) — The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) is preparing for the 2025 Labor Day holiday travel period, which begins Friday, Aug. 29 at 6 a.m. and runs through Monday, Sept. 1 at midnight.

Troopers will increase visibility on Mississippi highways with safety checkpoints and high-visibility patrols aimed at reducing crashes and saving lives. The focus will be on deterring speeding, distracted and impaired driving, preventing fatal crashes, and enforcing seatbelt use.

“This Labor Day weekend, as we celebrate the end of summer, let’s also remember to remain safe,” said Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell. “Do not drink and drive, put your phones down while driving, and always wear your seatbelt. Let us also take a moment to thank the law enforcement officers and first responders who are working through the holiday to keep us safe.”

During last year’s Labor Day enforcement period, MHP investigated 155 crashes, including seven fatalities. Troopers also issued 740 citations for seatbelt violations and made 122 DUI arrests on state and federal highways.

Officials urge drivers to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and make responsible choices to ensure a safe holiday weekend across Mississippi.
