Mississippi Agriculture Commissioner Promotes Local Christmas Trees

JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippi Agriculture and Commerce Commissioner Andy Gipson is encouraging families to celebrate the holidays with a “Genuine Mississippi” Christmas by purchasing locally grown trees.

Gipson said nearly 30 farms across the state are offering fresh options, from Leyland cypress to Eastern redcedar. He noted that real Christmas trees are biodegradable, environmentally friendly and support local farmers and communities.

“Choosing a Mississippi-grown tree is a way to celebrate the season while strengthening our economy,” Gipson said. Families can find farm listings, tree varieties and care tips at MSChristmasTrees.com.

Many farms open Thanksgiving Day or the following weekend, with some offering pre-tagging services. Beyond tree sales, visitors can enjoy wagon rides, holiday lights, hot chocolate and family photo opportunities.
