MBI probes Jackson shooting incident
JACKSON, Miss. — The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is reviewing an officer‑involved shooting that occurred Friday involving the Capitol Police Department near Crestview Street.
According to preliminary information, Capitol Police officers responded to reports of shots fired on Feb. 14. When an officer arrived, he found an individual lying in the street with an apparent gunshot wound. While the officer was assisting the injured person, the subject began firing toward him, prompting the officer to return fire.
Shortly afterward, a second individual exited a nearby residence with an apparent gunshot wound and told officers the subject had died by suicide. The subject was later found inside the home with what investigators believe to be a self‑inflicted gunshot wound.
Both injured individuals were taken to a local hospital. No additional injuries were reported.
MBI agents are gathering evidence and conducting interviews as part of their standard protocol for critical incidents. Once the investigation is complete, findings will be submitted to the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office for review. Officials emphasized that all details remain preliminary.
Additional updates may be released as the investigation continues.
