Lottery January transfer reaches $12 million

Key points

  • The Mississippi Lottery transferred more than $12.06 million to the state for January, bringing the fiscal year total for infrastructure to nearly $80 million.
  • Total state contributions have surpassed $770 million since the lottery’s inception, with future 2026 funds set to pivot toward education.
  • Recent Powerball drawings produced significant local winners in Kosciusko and Fayette, totaling $150,000 in combined prizes.

JACKSON, Miss. — Driven by a surge in player activity, the Mississippi Lottery Corporation has transferred more than $12.06 million to state coffers for January, maintaining a streak of high-performing months for the 2026 fiscal year.

The January transfer of $12,060,016.71 follows a December peak of $13.24 million. The steady flow of revenue has pushed the total fiscal year contribution for Mississippi roads and bridges to $78,654,982.31.

Under state law, the first $80 million in lottery proceeds each fiscal year is earmarked for the Mississippi Department of Transportation. With the state just 1.7 percent away from hitting that cap, all subsequent transfers for the remainder of the fiscal year will be directed to the Education Enhancement Fund.

Since lottery sales launched in late 2019, total contributions to the state have eclipsed the $770 million mark. Officials noted that all current figures remain contingent upon a final annual financial audit.

Lucky Streaks in Kosciusko and Fayette

The financial milestone comes on the heels of several life-changing wins for local residents. During the Powerball drawing on Wednesday, Feb. 4, two Mississippi tickets secured major prizes through strategic use of the game’s add-on features.

In Kosciusko, a player who purchased a ticket at Tobacco Warehouse 41 matched four white balls and the Powerball. While the base prize for the match is $50,000, the winner’s decision to include the $1 Power Play option doubled their windfall to $100,000.

Simultaneously, a ticket sold at Sprint Mart #66 in Fayette matched the same number combination in the Double Play drawing. By opting for the $1 Double Play add-on, which uses a separate set of numbers drawn after the main event, the player secured a $50,000 prize.

Lottery officials continue to encourage players to use the official mobile app to check winning numbers and monitor the progress of state infrastructure and education funding.
