TAYLOR, Miss. — First District Democratic congressional candidate Cliff Johnson has released his first radio advertisement, emphasizing his civil rights work and endorsements from leading Mississippi Democrats, including U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson.

The ad features a North Mississippi family who recounts Johnson’s advocacy after their teenage daughter was mistreated in the criminal legal system. Johnson also highlights support from Thompson, State Sen. Theresa Gillespie-Isom and Lowndes County Supervisor Leroy Brooks.

Johnson said he is grateful the family chose to share their story publicly and honored to receive backing from longtime Democratic leaders. He praised Thompson as a tireless advocate for Mississippi families and said they share a commitment to expanding economic opportunity across the state.

Thompson, who has known Johnson for more than two decades, described him as a steadfast defender of vulnerable Mississippians and said he looks forward to working with him in Washington.

The ad’s release follows Johnson’s strong fourth-quarter fundraising performance, with more than $250,000 raised in his first 90 days — a record for a Democrat in Mississippi’s 1st District relying solely on individual contributions.
