Former Coahoma County Deputy Coroner pleads guilty to embezzlement

JACKSON, Miss. — Former Coahoma County Deputy Coroner Markeith Mosley has pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement after misusing a county-issued Fuelman card, according to State Auditor Shad White.

Mosley admitted to converting $19,289.01 in taxpayer funds for personal use while serving as an employee of Coahoma County. He was prosecuted in Coahoma County Circuit Court.

“This case is another example of how working hand-in-hand with prosecutors allows us to recover more taxpayer money than ever before,” White said in a statement. “In the last seven years, we’ve recovered more funds than any other seven-year period in the history of the Auditor’s Office.”

The Auditor’s Office encourages citizens to report suspected fraud by clicking the red button at osa.ms.gov or by calling 1-800-321-1275 during business hours.
