Fire damages Friars Point preschool
Aug. 6, 2025 – A fire caused significant damage to a preschool in Friars Point late Tuesday night, prompting a multi-agency emergency response.
The Coahoma County Fire Department responded to the blaze around 10:30 p.m. on August 6 at a commercial structure on South Street. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of the building, which was identified as a local preschool.
Crews made entry and worked quickly to bring the fire under control. The firefighting operation lasted approximately six hours, with teams from Lyon, Lula, Jonestown, Friars Point, and Bobo assisting in the response.
The structure sustained extensive smoke and fire damage, but no injuries were reported. Pafford EMS was on scene providing medical standby support as a precaution.
The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
