Fatal shooting in Collins under state investigation

JACKSON, Miss. — The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has launched an inquiry into an officer‑involved shooting that left one person dead Wednesday in Collins.

According to preliminary information, Collins police officers responded to a disturbance call on Feb. 13 near Pine Avenue involving a person reportedly armed with a weapon. When officers arrived, the individual approached them while armed, prompting officers to fire their weapons.

The subject sustained fatal injuries. One officer suffered minor injuries. No additional injuries were reported.

MBI agents are gathering evidence and conducting interviews as part of their standard protocol for critical incidents. Once the investigation is complete, findings will be turned over to the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office for review. Officials noted that details remain subject to change as the investigation continues.
