Baptist to host mobile mammography events
Sept. 24, 2024 – Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women is kicking off Breast Cancer Awareness Month early with several mobile mammography community events in September and October.
Baptist’s mobile mammography unit helps bridge the gap for early breast cancer detection through accessible screening services, educational materials, and other community resources. Research has shown early diagnosis of breast cancer significantly improves patient outcomes.
“Breast cancer continues to be the second leading cause of cancer death among women,” said Jennifer Martinez, administrative director at Baptist Women’s Health Center. “We hope making mammography services more accessible through Baptist’s mobile mammography unit will make it easier for women to get mammograms, make their breast health a priority, and help save more women’s lives.”
Baptist partners with various community groups, including community health centers, nonprofit organizations, assisted living and retirement facilities, and churches, to provide convenient locations for mobile mammography services. Businesses can also request the mobile mammography unit provide screening mammograms at their locations. No cost is associated with requesting the mobile unit, and most insurance plans cover mammography. Grant funds are also available for those without insurance who qualify.
