JACKSON, Miss. — District Attorney Scott Colom, a Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate, received a major boost Monday as the Mississippi AFL-CIO Committee on Political Education endorsed his campaign during a press conference at the organization’s headquarters. Colom is running for the seat currently held by U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith.

Union members from across the state joined Colom as he highlighted his platform centered on higher wages, affordable health care, good-paying jobs and lowering costs for working families. The Mississippi AFL-CIO represents more than 20 national and international unions and thousands of workers statewide.

“This endorsement shows that working people in Mississippi are ready for change,” Colom said. “I’m honored to stand with the men and women who build our ships, wire our homes, construct our roads and keep our communities safe. They deserve a senator who will fight every day to raise wages, bring down costs and bring good jobs home.”

Mississippi AFL-CIO President Mickey Carr said Colom has demonstrated a strong commitment to labor and understands the role unions play in strengthening communities.

The endorsement adds to Colom’s growing momentum ahead of the March 10 Democratic primary. He out-raised Hyde-Smith in the final quarter of 2025 and has traveled the state holding town halls focused on rising costs, health care access and job growth.
