MBI Investigates Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting After George County Standoff

LUCEDALE, Miss. — The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) has launched a probe into a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred Thursday evening in George County following a standoff with a subject who allegedly appeared to be armed.

The incident took place around 7:10 p.m. on BlackBerry Lane in Lucedale, according to a statement released by the MBI.

Regional SWAT Team officers were attempting to execute a warrant at a residence when the subject barricaded himself inside. After a period of negotiation and containment—a standoff—the subject approached the door. Agents report that the individual was holding what “appeared to be a weapon.”

Officers subsequently discharged their weapons, fatally striking the subject. No officers sustained physical injuries during the confrontation.

Once the investigation is complete, MBI agents will forward their findings to the Attorney General’s Office for review.

The MBI cautioned that this information is preliminary and subject to change as the investigation progresses.
