Whatley named new Northwest Rangers men’s soccer coach

SENATOBIA, Miss. – Northwest Mississippi Community College has named Windham Whatley as the fifth head coach in the history of the Ranger men’s soccer program, Athletic Director Jake Gordon announced Tuesday.

Whatley joins Northwest after a successful six-year stint at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC). Serving most recently as a full-time assistant, he helped lead the Bulldogs to a 67-28-12 record and a 2024 national tournament appearance.

“I am excited to have Windham come take over the men’s soccer program here,” Gordon said. “He is coming from a successful program in the state, and I have no doubt he will have success here.”

A former MGCCC captain and United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American, Whatley also brings experience from coaching roles with the South Mississippi Soccer Club and the Mississippi Olympic Development Program. He views the Rangers as a “sleeping giant” ready for a culture shift.

“I will strive to turn this program into something that is to be dealt with in not just the North, but across the state,” Whatley said. “We have to change the culture of why kids come to Northwest and what is to be expected day in and day out as a Ranger soccer player.”

The Rangers are seeking their first winning season since 2015. Whatley aims to leverage the college’s resources and facilities to transform the program into a perennial contender in the MACCC.

“It seems like Northwest has all the resources to take a program and go win some games and hopefully win a title,” Whatley added.

Whatley holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education from William Carey University.
