Tuesday sports: Lynx’ big inning stops Trojans’ district title hopes

Tuesday night baseball was a matter of the big inning being the difference. That’s how it turned out when Lausanne Collegiate had a four-run inning to counter Northpoint Christian’s two-run outburst in a 4-2 TSSAA Division II-A district game at Northpoint.
Northpoint was unable to clinch the district championship as a result and will likely be the second seed when the postseason begins.
The Trojans took the 2-0 lead in the first inning and it may have looked like a repeat of Monday’s 13-1 thrashing of the Lynx on Lausanne’s diamond. KL Farr’s single drove Jayden Parker home and Farr would later score on a wild pitch for the early advantage.
But that’s all of the scoring offense the Trojans could muster and pitching struggles finally cost Northpoint a Lausanne big inning and eventually the contest.
The Lynx got their big inning in the third, thanks to two runs scored on two separate wild pitches, and a two-run scoring sacrifice.
After that, Northpoint would have opportunities to plate runners, especially in the last two innings, but failed to score, ending the game with a ground ball out that left the bases loaded.
Northpoint outhit the Lynx 7-6 and Lausanne committed the only error in the game. Parker and Isaiah Nolan each had a pair of hits with Parker and Nolan Bone each hitting doubles.
Starting pitcher Jace Robinson suffered the loss, allowing all four runs in his 2.2 innings on the mound. Robinson walked four and struck out three.
Northpoint’s regular season continues Thursday, traveling to Arlington, Tennessee. A home doubleheader against Bolton, Tennessee follows on Friday and then a home game against White Station the following Monday will complete the regular season ahead of the playoffs.
