SPORTS ETC.: Matthew Smith of DeSoto Central was named the winner of the Shan Whiteside Award, recognizing a Jaguars’ boy or girl basketball player who exhibits character and perseverance. Members of the Shan Whiteside family, wife Gayle and children Leigh Allison and Tyler presented all awards for Smith and the Players of the Game during Saturday’s Shan Whiteside Sideline Cancer Basketball Classic.
