SENATOBIA, Miss. — The Northwest Mississippi Community College football team’s passing game exploded on Thursday night, powering the Rangers to a decisive 33-13 victory against Southwest Mississippi Community College at Bobby Franklin Field. The win brings the Rangers to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in league play.
Quarterback Neko Fann and wide receiver Keon Hutchins provided the fireworks. Fann recorded a career-high 334 passing yards and four touchdowns. Hutchins made history, pulling in six receptions for 216 yards and three touchdowns—the most receiving yards by a Northwest receiver since 2009.
“We got some explosive plays in the pass game,” said Head Coach Benjy Parker. “That’s what got us over the hump.”
Hutchins and Fann connected for three long scores in the first half, putting Northwest up 21-7. The Rangers’ defense was equally effective, forcing a safety and tallying 11 tackles for a loss. Defensive leader Rase Jones had six solo tackles and two tackles for loss.
Northwest will host Mississippi Delta Community College on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. for Homecoming.
