Northwest volleyball reaches 20 wins in September with Alabama sweep
FAYETTE, Ala. – Northwest Mississippi Community College volleyball hit a historic milestone Tuesday, notching its 19th and 20th wins of the season with back-to-back sweeps over Bevill State and Wallace-Selma in a tri-match.
The Rangers (20-3, 7-1) became the first team in program history to reach 20 victories in the month of September. In the previous two seasons, Northwest didn’t hit the mark until October.
“It was a good day in Alabama,” head coach Allison Burchyett said. “We are so excited to get to 20 wins in September, and we are looking forward to playing at home against Jones College.”
Sweep of Bevill State
Northwest rolled past host Bevill State in straight sets, 25-19, 25-16, 25-7. The Rangers hit .322 as a team and committed only six hitting errors.
Serving standout: Sophomore libero Jania Rose delivered a career-high eight aces, surpassing her previous mark of six, and added a team-high 14 digs.
Offensive balance: Chloe Fesperman, Adalyn Callahan, and Ariana Woods each tallied nine kills, with Callahan hitting .571 on 14 attacks.
Setters’ rhythm: Dallas White dished 16 assists while Saylor Bryant added 15.
Closing Out Wallace-Selma
The momentum carried into the finale as Northwest downed Wallace-Selma 25-8, 25-20, 25-12.
Deep attack: Eleven Rangers recorded kills, led by Fesperman’s 11. Woods and Callahan chipped in eight apiece.
Passing leaders: Bryant totaled 18 assists, with White contributing 14.
Service power: Fesperman tallied a career-best five aces, while Rose and Hassie Clare Thurman added three each. Seven players in all scored aces for Northwest.
Defensive presence: Woods anchored the net with two solo blocks and two block assists.
Historic Start
The 2023 Rangers didn’t hit 20 wins until Oct. 6, finishing with a program-record 28 victories. In 2024, they reached the mark on Oct. 7 with a 20-7 record. This year’s squad reached it nearly two weeks earlier, setting the stage for a strong postseason run.
Northwest returned home to Senatobia to face Jones College Wednesday in a key MACCC matchup.
