Northwest rodeo coach Lummus wins Reserve World Champion title at NFR
LAS VEGAS — For the fourth time in five years, Northwest Mississippi Community College rodeo head coach Will Lummus has claimed the title of Reserve World Champion.
Lummus wrapped up his eighth career appearance at the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in Las Vegas this week, finishing the season with $334,833 in total earnings. While the veteran steer wrestler faced challenges in the aggregate standings, his strong seasonal performance secured him the No. 2 spot in the world, finishing just over $10,000 ahead of third-place Jesse Brown.
Tucker Allen took home the World Champion gold buckle with nearly $400,000 in earnings after winning the NFR average, a victory that propelled him past Lummus in the final money standings.
Despite finishing 15th in the NFR average with seven qualified catches, Lummus delivered several highlight-reel performances throughout the 10-day event. His standout moment came in Round 4, where he split the round win with a blistering 4.0-second run.
Lummus remained consistent in the daily rounds, averaging less than four seconds on his successful runs. He notched top-tier finishes throughout the week, including:
- Round 2: 4.0 seconds (Top 3)
- Round 5: 3.7 seconds (Top 3)
- Round 9: 3.8 seconds (Tied for 2nd)
- Round 10: 3.9 seconds (3rd)
- Round 6: 4.6 seconds (4th)
The Reserve World Champion title adds another accolade to Lummus’ decorated professional career, reinforcing his status as one of the top steer wrestlers in the world while he continues to lead the rodeo program at Northwest.
