Northwest basketball falls 103-98 to Arkansas State Mid-South in first loss
Rangers move to 1-1 after high-scoring tournament finale; Terry leads with 18 points
WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — The Northwest Mississippi Community College men’s basketball team dropped its first game of the season, falling 103-98 in a fast-paced road test against Arkansas State Mid-South on Saturday.
The Rangers (1-1) stormed out to an early 14-point lead in the first half and held a 52-47 advantage at halftime. However, the Greyhounds (1-1) rallied in the second half, using an 11-1 run to tie the game at 64-64 before eventually taking the lead for good at 73-72.
Costly turnovers plagued Northwest, which committed 25 in the game. Despite the loss, the Rangers shot 41.4 percent from three-point range and placed five players in double-figures.
Chancellor Terry led the balanced offensive effort with 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting, adding four steals and three assists. Demetrius Duffy notched 13 points and led the team with nine rebounds, while Dakota Morris and Harry Malone III also scored 13 points each. Ladarrius Brown added 12 points off the bench.
“The guys played really hard tonight,” Head Coach John Redman said. “Got to give credit to Arkansas Mid-South. They made some big plays and hit some big shots down the stretch.”
Redman praised his team’s effort despite the outcome. “I’m really proud of our guys fighting until the buzzer. Our guys showed no quit,” he said.
The Rangers will look to bounce back in their home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 4, when they host Dyersburg State Community College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Howard Coliseum.
