In the game of baseball, the goal is to win as many games as you can. During the course of a baseball season, the goal is to win a championship and be the best team of those you have played against during that season.
In the game of baseball, a batter is considered to excel if he is successful at the plate 25-35 percent of the time and batting .400 can put you in Ted Williams legendary territory.
In the game of high school baseball, coaches want their teams to succeed and win with each outing but that is not always possible. They also hope to see their players finish their high school career achieving a scholarship to continue playing college baseball, but that is not always possible.
For Northpoint Christian’s high school baseball team, a number of goals were checked off the list this season. The Trojans of coach Stephen Kirkpatrick won most of the time with a 35-6-1 overall record and they were the team smiling and enjoying a state championship with their TSSAA Division II-A title won over Goodpasture Christian School at Middle Tennessee State University.
But probably most gratifying is the team’s average in getting seniors off to college baseball, an average not always seen.
Kirkpatrick’s team didn’t have 25 percent, 35 percent, over even 50 percent of the senior class getting scholarships. Of the eight seniors from the state championship team, all eight will be playing college ball next season.
The group became eight for eight Wednesday morning at the school with the signings of Justin Hall to Coahoma Community College, Cade Freeze to Northwest Mississippi Community College, and Connor Cavette to Williams Baptist University in Arkansas.
Here are the eight Northpoint seniors and where they will play college baseball next season:
Hudson Brown – Kentucky
Rob Hayes – Northwest CC
JB Williams – Northeast CC
Conner Mcknatt – Northeast CC
Sammy Chapman – Southwest Tennessee CC
Cade Freeze – Northwest CC
Connor Cavette – Williams Baptist, Ark.
Justin Hall – Coahoma CC
