Linzy named Rust College assistant women’s basketball coach

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – Rust College has announced the addition of Mychala Linzy as the new assistant women’s basketball coach, bringing a strong background as both a player and coach to the Bearcats program.

Linzy comes to Rust College from Southern Arkansas University, where she worked as a graduate assistant coach with a focus on guard development. During her time there, she helped guide the program to a berth in the Great American Conference Tournament.

As a student-athlete, Linzy was a standout guard at multiple programs. She was a two-year starter at Southern Arkansas, setting the program’s single-season record for three-pointers while helping the team advance to the conference tournament. She also played one season at McNeese State University, where she started at point guard and helped the Cowgirls reach the Southland Conference Tournament.

Her college career began at Pearl River Community College, where she was the leading scorer in both seasons and earned Region 23 All-Tournament and All-Conference honors.

A native of Clinton, Linzy starred at Clinton High School as a three-year starter, leading her team to consecutive state playoff appearances and earning multiple “Player of the Game” honors. She holds an associate degree from Pearl River, a bachelor’s degree in sport management from Southern Arkansas, and a master’s degree in kinesiology from the same institution.

“Coach Linzy brings a strong background as both a player and coach, and we are confident she will make an immediate impact on our women’s basketball program,” Rust College Athletics Director Jeremy Patterson said. Head coach Jaleesa Sams added: “Her passion for the game, commitment to student-athlete growth, and proven ability to develop players will be instrumental as we continue to build a competitive program here at Rust College.”
