Lewisburg golf leads DeSoto County at 7A state; Stewart finishes fourth

CANTON, Miss. – The Lewisburg High School girls’ golf team posted the top DeSoto County finish at the recent MHSAA 7A state golf championship, securing sixth place at the Country Club of Canton.

The Lady Patriots finished the 36-hole tournament with a team score of 347, or 59-over par. Hernando High School also represented the county, finishing ninth with a team score of 395 (+107).

Northwest Rankin claimed the state championship with a combined score of 319 (+31). Madison Central finished 14 shots back in second place, followed by Ocean Springs, Germantown (Madison), and West Harrison rounding out the top five.

Individually, Lewisburg’s Mary Morgan Stewart had a standout performance, finishing fourth overall in the state. Stewart shot a 20-over par 164 for the two-day event.

Hernando’s top golfer was Avery Baker, who finished 14th overall with a score of 177 (+33).

Natalie Bryant of Northwest Rankin earned the individual medalist honors, finishing at 10-over par (154) to win the individual state title.
