OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. (Sept. 24, 2025) — Lake Cormorant moved closer to the Region 1-6A volleyball championship Tuesday night with a straight-set victory over Center Hill, winning 25-15, 25-21, 25-23.

The Lady Gators entered the match unbeaten in region play, while Center Hill stood as their closest rival with just one loss. The victory now puts Lake Cormorant firmly in control of the regular-season race.

Sofia Gonzalez led the Lady Gators with 18 kills and 29 digs, while Ma’Kayla Hill added 10 kills and three aces. Payton Davis tallied six kills, 20 assists, and several key points in the second set. Emily Huerta served two aces and finished with 27 digs, and Kayla Gonzalez recorded 10 assists.

Lake Cormorant controlled the first set behind early service runs and big kills from Gonzalez. The Lady Mustangs made late pushes in the second and third sets, but the Gators responded each time, including a 9-0 run to open the final frame. Center Hill tied the third set at 22-22 before Hill and Kelsi Agner closed the door for the win.

Coach Christina Morgan praised her team’s composure under pressure. “They had a lot of energy tonight, and just when we would lose a point or two, we would come back,” Morgan said. “That ability to reset and not let our opponents go on long runs is something we’ve worked on, and they did a great job.”

With the win, Lake Cormorant remains unbeaten in the region with one district match left against Olive Branch. The Lady Gators also face Oxford this week before heading into the DeSoto County tournament.
