Hustle stop Squadron behind Preston triple-double
The Memphis Hustle (3-5) defeated the Birmingham Squadron (4-2) 129-112 behind Jason Preston’s first career triple-double.
Preston finished with 16 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists. David Johnson led the Hustle in scoring, totaling 27 points off the bench. Cameron McGriff added 24 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Adonis Arms contributed 18 points. Timmy Allen scored 13 points. Two-way transfer GG Jackson II and Loudon Love each tallied 12 points.
Landers Nolley II paced the Squadron with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Dereon Seabron added 22 points and seven rebounds. Jalen Crutcher contributed 18 points and eight assists. Malcolm Hill scored 14 points. Tevian Jones scored 12 points and Izaiah Brockington tallied 11 points off the Birmingham bench.
Birmingham used a 21-10 first half run to extend their lead to as many as 11 in the second quarter, but Memphis scored the first 11 points of the second half as part of a 19-2 run to retake the lead. The Squadron fought back to tie the game at 83 before the Hustle used a 19-4 run to push their lead to 15 points. Memphis led by as many as 19 in the fourth quarter.
The Memphis bench scored a season-high 64 points. The Hustle outscored the Squadron 66-56 in points in the paint, and 20-9 in second chance points. The game featured 11 ties and 10 lead changes prior to the Hustle’s second half surge.
Memphis returns to Landers Center on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 7 p.m. to host the Austin Spurs.
