OLIVE BRANCH – The Horn Lake Eagles bounced back in a big way Friday night, securing a dominant 32-8 road victory over the Olive Branch Conquistadors. The Eagles, coming off a tough loss to Collierville, Tenn. last week, showed resilience and offensive firepower to improve their record. The Conquistadors, who had defeated Lewisburg 42-21 in their previous game, struggled to find their rhythm against Horn Lake’s defense.
The Eagles’ offense wasted no time, with quarterback Jason Edwards connecting with Jaden Moses on a 28-yard touchdown pass just minutes into the game. Another impressive strike from Edwards, this time a 65-yard bomb to Jakevious Brooks extended the lead to 13-0 in the first quarter. Horn Lake continued its aerial assault before halftime when Edwards found Lance McGowan for a 10-yard score, putting the Eagles up 19-0.
The ground game took over in the second half. Courtney Jones punched it in from eight yards out in the third quarter, and Isiah Sims added a two-yard touchdown run in the fourth, bringing the score to 32-0. The Eagles’ special teams finally got on the board with a successful extra-point kick from Mario Blanco,
Olive Branch managed to get on the scoreboard late in the game, first with a safety and then with a two-yard touchdown run from Javarris Hickman but it was too little, too late.
Looking ahead, Horn Lake will face their neighbor rival, Lake Cormorant, in the highly anticipated Lake Bowl at Lake Cormorant next Friday. Meanwhile, Olive Branch will look to rebound at home against Kosciusko.
