DeSoto Central routs Charleston behind Perry’s three rushing TDs

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — Quarterback Eric Perry ran for three touchdowns to power DeSoto Central to a dominant 49-14 high school football victory over visiting Charleston’s Tigers on Friday night.

Perry found the end zone on runs of 30, 17 and 32 yards, leading the Jaguars’ offense. DeSoto Central jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead and never looked back, improving its record to 3-2 on the season.

The scoring onslaught began early, with Perry’s 30-yard run in the first quarter. Later in the quarter, LaQuonton Evans hauled in a 70-yard pass for a touchdown with 1:46 left. Cade Rodgers extended the lead in the second quarter with a 60-yard burst for a score, followed by a nine-yard touchdown pass from the quarterback to Peyton Williams.

Charleston would answer with touchdowns from running back Marcus Flowers, who scored on a 28-yard pass play from Devon Olive early in the third quarter and later broke free for a 70-yard rushing score.

But, Perry added his second and third rushing touchdowns of the night, from 17 and 32 yards, respectively, to put the game firmly out of reach.

DeSoto Central will play host to Germantown, Tenn., next Friday night. Charleston will have a bye week before beginning 2A region play in two weeks.
