Young to face Klein in Horn Lake mayor primary
Jan 6, 2025- It was expected but Monday it was made official that the Republican campaign for mayor of Horn Lake will be a race between two sitting aldermen.
Alderman at-Large Danny Klein and Ward 4 Alderman Dave Young have both qualified to run for the post with the upcoming retirement of Mayor Allen Latimer. Young announced his qualification in a news release Monday after Klein posted a photo of him signing his qualification papers on social media.
Klein and Young will run in a Republican primary in April. The winner apparently will face Jimmy Stokes II, who reportedly has announced a run as a Democrat.
Both Klein and Young have been on the Board of Aldermen since 2021. Latimer announced his retirement after being the city’s mayor since 2013.
In the news release announcing his qualifying intentions, Young stated his desire to bring new jobs and development to Horn Lake.
“Our city has improved compared to previous years; look around.” Young said. “We undoubtedly have many additional needs, but much has been accomplished in the past four years. I know there is more to come. We cannot afford to go in reverse.”
Young also touted his conservatism, saying Horn Lake needs a conservative leader for the future, adding “our sewer issues, financial stability, indebtedness and growth will be a balancing act,” he said.
Klein initially announced publicly in August that he had planned to run for mayor.
