YMCA of Memphis & the Mid‑South opens doors during extreme winter weather

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — January 28, 2026 — As dangerous winter weather continues to impact the region, the YMCA of Memphis & the Mid‑South is opening its doors to provide safe, warm spaces for individuals and families across the Mid‑South — including the YMCA location in Olive Branch

From 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., all open YMCA branches are welcoming both members and non‑members to shower, recharge devices, and find relief from the cold. The effort reflects the organization’s ongoing commitment to supporting the community during times of crisis.

To further assist those serving on the front lines, the Fogelman Downtown YMCA is offering free childcare for first responders during the same limited hours. The service is intended to give peace of mind to families while first responders continue essential work to keep the community safe.

Non‑members may enter YMCA facilities with a valid photo ID and will have access to common areas and locker rooms. Program amenities — including YPlay, group exercise classes, aquatics, weight rooms, and other member‑exclusive services — will not be available to non‑members during this temporary community‑support period.

“The YMCA’s mission is rooted in supporting people and strengthening communities,” said Brian McLaughlin, President and CEO of the YMCA of Memphis & the Mid‑South. “During times of need, we focus on creating safe, welcoming environments where individuals and families can find support, stability, and care.”

Residents are encouraged to check ymcamemphis.org for updates on operating hours and available locations as winter weather conditions evolve.
