OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. — The Olive Branch Police Department entered a new chapter of leadership Monday as officials gathered to celebrate the promotion of Bryce Wardlaw to the rank of captain. The ceremony, held Monday, March 2, served as a dual milestone for the department, also marking the official retirement of Wardlaw’s partner, K-9 Flip.

Mayor Ken Adams, members of the Board of Aldermen, and Police Chief Carlos Garcia were in attendance to honor Wardlaw, whose career with the department spans 15 years. Garcia expressed high confidence in the new captain’s ability to lead, noting that his advancement is a testament to his professionalism and unwavering commitment to the city.

A 2005 graduate of Olive Branch High School, Wardlaw joined the force in 2009 after earning a degree in business administration from Northwest Mississippi Community College. Since then, he has navigated a steady ascent through the ranks. His tenure includes nine years in leadership positions and a diverse portfolio of service, ranging from patrol officer and K-9 handler to S.W.A.T. commander.

The promotion is a “full circle” moment for the Memphis-born officer, who has spent the vast majority of his life in the community he now helps lead.

While the promotion looked toward the future of the department’s leadership, a poignant moment of the ceremony focused on the end of an era. K-9 Flip, who has served alongside Wardlaw for years, was officially retired.

Flip’s service record was described by officials as one defined by loyalty and courage. As the K-9 transitioned from active duty to a well-earned retirement, department members offered their gratitude for the animal’s contribution to public safety.

As captain, Wardlaw will oversee critical operations within the department, continuing his work with the S.W.A.T. team while taking on broader administrative and strategic responsibilities.

City officials emphasized that the promotion reflects a 100 percent confidence level in Wardlaw’s vision for the department’s growth and the continued safety of Olive Branch residents.
