Voters face Saturday deadline for absentee voting in Nov. 4 special Senate election

HERNANDO, Miss. – Voters in DeSoto County face a Saturday, Nov. 1, deadline for in-person absentee balloting ahead of the critical Nov. 4 special state Senate elections.

The DeSoto County Circuit Clerk’s office in Hernando will be open for a final four-hour window from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. (noon) on Saturday to accommodate eligible absentee voters. This is the last opportunity to cast a ballot in person before Election Day.

The special elections were mandated by a federal court order related to legislative redistricting, which redrew the boundaries for four state Senate districts that cover parts of DeSoto County.

Election officials strongly urge all residents to confirm their polling place before heading out to vote on Tuesday, as the redistricting may have assigned many voters to a new location.

In-person absentee voting is conducted exclusively at the DeSoto County Circuit Clerk’s Office, located at 2535 Hwy 51 South, Room 201, in Hernando. To vote absentee, residents must have a valid reason, such as being 65 or older, having a temporary or permanent physical disability, or planning to be outside the county on Election Day.

For those voting on Election Day, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
