July 29, 2025 – A Byhalia man is behind bars after leading deputies on a high-speed chase spanning two counties on the night of Friday, July 25.
Billy Jack Walker, 41, was arrested by the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Department and charged with felony fleeing, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of stolen property.
Authorities say the pursuit began when a patrol deputy encountered a suspicious vehicle stopped in the middle of Cooper’s Crossing Road with its lights off.
As the deputy approached, Walker reportedly jumped into a second vehicle that had pulled alongside and sped away. The chase continued into Lee County and ended in Tupelo when Walker crashed while attempting to pass another vehicle on the shoulder.
Investigators later discovered the abandoned vehicle at the scene was reported stolen out of Olive Branch.
In addition to felony charges, Walker faces 16 misdemeanor offenses. He remains in custody at the Pontotoc County Adult Detention Center on a $34,057 bond and is awaiting pickup by the Mississippi Department of Corrections. He is currently on parole from Marshall County for multiple prior felony convictions.
The case remains under investigation due to the presence of illegal narcotics.
