Uselton named school superintendents association secretary

July 16, 2025 – DeSoto County Schools Supt. Cory Uselton was named secretary of the Mississippi Association of School Superintendents (MASS) board of directors during its recent summer convention.

“Our board is made up of seasoned educators who bring invaluable perspectives to the challenges facing Mississippi schools,” said Dr. Phil Burchfield, executive director of MASS. “Mr. Uselton’s dedicated leadership ensures that MASS can successfully equip superintendents with the tools, training and support they need to make a lasting impact.”

A MASS news release said the organization has played a key role in advancing initiatives that elevate Mississippi’s teaching profession — including efforts to raise teacher salaries, enhance certification requirements and improve recruitment and retention.
