UPDATE: Southaven school bus driver to remain employed by district

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – A DeSoto County school bus driver was briefly taken into custody Wednesday morning after being stopped for a traffic violation, but the charge that led to the arrest has since been dismissed.

According to the Southaven Police Department, officers observed the school bus run a stop sign and enter traffic, prompting a traffic stop. During the stop, officers learned the driver had an active warrant from the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office for contempt of court, which was connected to a seat belt violation.

The driver was detained while a district safety officer was dispatched to complete the route and ensure students arrived safely at school.

DeSoto County Schools confirmed the driver remains employed. District officials said they were informed later in the day that the contempt of court charge was issued in error and is being dismissed.
