Southaven woman sentenced to 25 years for 2023 bludgeoning murder
HERNANDO, Miss. – A Southaven woman was sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to the 2023 murder of a 65-year-old man, authorities announced Tuesday.
Erin Malchow, 40, pleaded guilty to Second-Degree Murder in the death of Harvey Satterfield. District Attorney Matthew Barton confirmed Malchow will serve the 25-year sentence in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
The crime occurred on Sept. 17, 2023, in Southaven. Investigators said Malchow bludgeoned Satterfield, who succumbed to his injuries following a period of hospitalization.
Key details from the investigation and sentencing include:
- The Southaven Police Department utilized both physical evidence and digital forensics to identify and charge Malchow.
- Following the 25-year prison term, Malchow will serve 15 years of post-release supervision, with five years of reporting.
- Assistant District Attorney Steven Jubera led the prosecution of the case.
“If you commit violent crime in DeSoto County, you’re getting real prison time, not a slap on the wrist,” Barton said in a statement. “Based on Malchow’s age and health conditions, I doubt she lives through the day for day sentence she received.”
