Southaven Police VIPS Program seeks new volunteers

Aug. 5, 2025 – The Southaven Police Department is calling on community-minded residents to make a difference by joining its Volunteers in Policing (VIPS) program—a vital component of the department’s ongoing outreach and public safety efforts.

The VIPS program is made up of some of the most dedicated and civically engaged individuals in the community. These volunteers serve as Police Ambassadors, supporting law enforcement while advancing efforts to build trust and strengthen relationships between officers and residents. From assisting at community events to participating in outreach initiatives, VIPS help foster a safer and more connected Southaven.

“Becoming a VIP is a meaningful way to get involved, support law enforcement, and contribute to creating safer neighborhoods,” the department said. “Our VIPS are essential to the success of numerous special events throughout the year.”

To qualify for the program, applicants must:

  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Submit an application
  • Pass a background check
  • Commit to attend the Citizen’s Police Academy

Participants in the Citizen’s Police Academy will gain firsthand insight into the operations of the Southaven Police Department, helping bridge the gap between the public and law enforcement.

Anyone interested in learning more about the VIPS program or enrolling in the upcoming Citizen’s Police Academy is encouraged to contact Lt. Rico Harris at rharris@southaven.org or visit southavenpolice.org.

Whether you’re passionate about public safety or simply want to give back to your community, the Southaven Police Department’s VIPS program offers a meaningful opportunity to make a real impact.
